Jazz N Soul Music presents Singer Songwriter Leah Simone, Thursday November 7th at 7:00pm live at The Jam Shak at Rozzelles Ferry Landing.
Born and raised in the Queen City, LeahSimone brings a sound that blends indie folk, neo soul and a smart sprinkle of pop. Influenced by artists such as Lianne La Havas, Tracy Chapman, Frank Ocean, Raphael Sadiqq, Sade, Florence + The Machine, and Erykah Badu, she often tells folks who want to know: "Listen first and then tell me the genre you'd define it as!"
Growing up a theatre kid coupled with her study of writing and journalism fueled her lifelong love of storytelling of conveying emotions and summating the common threads of shared experiences. She taught herself to play guitar in college and moved to New York three weeks after graduation to find her sound and grit on the subway platforms for the subsequent five years.
Her March 2020 co-release with creative partner Alphonso Vaughn Vis titled "I'm Here, Come Outside" ironically hit platforms just weeks before the onset of the pandemic and the world?s first lockdown. The album called listeners to journey both within and without to survey the interconnectedness of themselves within both their physical and digital worlds. It was an ode to solitude and introspection, to the soil from which we were born, and the collision of humanity and the metaverse. Her single "Vision" hit platforms just months following IHCO and was later paired with her first ever visual in summer 2021.
Notable past performances include the ZO Clubhouse at Rockefeller Plaza, Soul in the Horn, The Evening Muse, BRIC TV, Blue Note NYC, Petra's, and Wine and Vibes Fest LA.
The Jam Shak is a new indoor live entertainment venue located at Rozzelles Ferry Landing. It features bands, solo artists, spoken word, and comedy performances, and is also available for private gatherings.
