Belk Theater : JACKSON BROWNE 7/14 Belk Theater Charlotte

JACKSON BROWNE Belk Theater Charlotte

Saturday July 14, 2012
At 8:00 pm

Jackson Browne has written and performed
some of the most literate and moving songs in
popular music and has defined a genre of
songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and
personal politics. He was honored with induction
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and
the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007.

Jackson's career began in the mid-60s in Los
Angeles and Orange County folk clubs. Except
for a brief period in NYC in the late 1960s, he has
always lived in Southern California. His debut album came out on David Geffen's Asylum Records in 1972. Since then, He has released thirteen studio albums and three collections of live performances; his most recent, Love Is Strange features David Lindley.

Beyond his music, Browne is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education. He's a co-founder of the groups Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE), Nukefree.org, and the Success Through the Arts Foundation, which provides education opportunities for students in South Los Angeles.

In 2002, he was the fourth recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, given to artists whose works exemplify the environmental and social values that were essential to the great California-born author. He has received Duke University’s LEAF award for Lifetime Environmental Achievement in the Fine Arts, and both the Chapin-World Hunger Year and NARM Harry Chapin Humanitarian Awards. In 2004, Jackson was given an honorary Doctorate of Music by Occidental College in Los Angeles, for "a remarkable musical career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social justice."

WAR HORSE Tue 5/28 thru Sun 6/2
Belk Theater
WAR HORSE tells the story of young Albert’s beloved horse, Joey, which has been sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. In a tale that the Sunday Express said is “…both epic and intimate,” and “absolutely guaranteed to move the heart,” Joey is caught in enemy crossfire and ends up serving both sides of the war before landing in no man’s land. Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home. What follows is a remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship.

WAR HORSE is filled with stirring music and songs, and at the heart of the show are life-sized puppets which bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to life on stage. “The puppetry is nothing short of miraculous,” according to The Times of London.

Recommended for ages 12 and up.
Note: Children under the age of 5 are not permitted in the theater.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN Fri 6/7 thru Sun 6/9
Belk Theater
Based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN is the high-flying, splashy new Broadway musical that tells the story of Frank W. Abagnale, Jr., a teenager who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer - living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. But when Frank's lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, Carl chases Frank to the end...and finds something he never expected.

This delightfully entertaining musical has been created by a Tony Award®-winning "dream team," with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime), a swinging score by Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman (Hairspray), choreography by Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) and direction by Jack O'Brien (Hairspray, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).

Don't miss this big-hearted musical adventure based on an astonishing real-life story of being young, in love... and in deep, deep trouble!
