Bechtler family patriarch Hans Bechtler was a beloved patron and friend to many of the artists whose work he collected. Bestowed upon him for his 60th birthday in 1964 was a one-of-a-kind portfolio filled with artwork created specifically for Hans by several of these artists. This intimate show on the museum's second floor examines these unique birthday works, and reveals the close ties between the Bechtlers and museum collection artists.

Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden invites guests to Join the Expedition during Orchid Spectacular, its annual showcase of orchids beginning Jan. 20. The event continues through March 18 with a focus on the explorers who risked life and limb in exotic jungles to discover new orchid species.

What is a poetry slam? A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Typically, the host or another organizer selects the judges, who are instructed to give numerical scores (on a zero to 10 or one to 10 scale) based on the poets' content and performance.
